Community Carpentry Course

ymlogoSince taking in the first group of trainees in January 2007 the Community Carpentry Course has now given over 30 people the opportunity to participate in learning new and basic carpentry skills.

With a certificate being awarded for the development of new skills we have to date been able to award 9 carpentry certificate and 11 first aid awards. An essential part of the course has seen the development of toy repair and manufacture. Local nursery schools and playgroups provide us with broken toys, children’s furniture and these are repaired free of charge. Trainees are also given the opportunity to make something for themselves; to date students have made toys, book cases, shoe racks and in one case having been taught to hang doors repaired a family member’s door.

The Carpentry workshop has proved to be a real success.

It is with thanks to the collaboration of the Learning Partnership and Youth Matters that this opportunity to develop and share new skill has been so successful.
